New Look Dressler Heads to Carlisle CC

Broomall, Pa. - The 76th edition of the George Dressler Memorial Championship will have a new look as it heads to Carlisle Country Club (par 71, 6400 yards) on April 25-26.  Formerly the Public Links Championship, eligibility restrictions have been changed to allow access to any amateur member of the Pennsylvania Golf Association.  The event is open to all ages, and will be comprised of a championship division for players up to 54 years old, a senior division for those 55 to 64, and a super-senior division for those 65 and over.

The Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Golf Association approved the change as a way to provide more opportunity for members to compete in state championship events.  The expected result should prove to be a stronger field, and bring value in the form of player of the year points, especially with 2016 being a year of USGA State Team selection.  Points are doubled during the season of team selection in order to put emphasis on current form.  The point structure for the Dressler mirrors that of the Art Wall, Jr. Memorial Championship, a similar event in comparison.

Brent Will, Deer Run Golf Club, looks to defend his crown in the Amateur division, while Greg Adams, also of Deer Run Golf Club, will prepare to repeat in the Senior division.  Other past champions who figure to be in the mix are Tom Timby, The Bucks Club, William Smith, Chambersburg Country Club, Rod James, Individual Member and Sean Knapp, Pittsburgh National Golf Club, a winner of four Dressler titles via two back-to-back efforts in 2009-2010 and 2012-2013.  Knapp is chasing Paul Garrison, of Hershey, who holds the record with five titles spanning the years of 1954-1977, his last win coming at 54 years old.

Carlisle Country Club has always been a generous supporter of the Association, hosting numerous USGA and Pennsylvania qualifying rounds.  The Association looks forward to being guests of the club and offers special thanks to Golf Professional Chip Richter, Superintendent Greg Fantuzzi, General Manager Kris Shultz, and the entire membership and staff.
