PITTSBURGH, Pa - The Pennsylvania Better-Ball Championship presented by Your Pennsylvania Toyota Dealers was shortened to an 18-hole championship due to rain soaked weather conditions on Monday. Play began Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Players struggled with the wet weather and cold temperatures.
The team of Stu Michaels and Josh Norris from Clearfield-Curwensville Country Club lit up their back nine with six birdies (holes # 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17) and a bogey (hole # 14) to shoot a 5-under 30 on the back nine. Their effort on the back nine would get them to 3-under 67. Michaels Shot 69 on his own ball.
After an even par front nine Eric Williams and Jim Gardes of Honesdale Golf Club would shoot 3-under par on the back nine to tie for the lead with Michaels and Norris and force a sudden death play-off.
On the first play-off hole (hole # 9) Stu Michaels played a brilliant shot out of the long wet rough to 7-feet for birdie but he did not convert. The hole was halved with par 4's. On the second play-off hole (hole # 10) Josh Norris would hit his second shot to within one-foot and made birdie three to win the 17th Pennsylvania Better-Ball Championship presented by Your Pennsylvania Toyota Dealers.
One stroke back was the 1999 champions Artie Fink and Greg Ferguson of Sinking Valley Country Club and Paul Mazeski and Mark Bope of Oakmont Country Club.
