Brown blisters CC of York with 67
York, Pa.– David Brown, St. Clair CC, fired a five-under-par 67 in the first round of the Pennsylvania Middle-Amateur Championship today at the CC of York (par 72, 6,610 yards). Despite less than ideal weather conditions, Brown, 44, managed a bogey-free round. Starting on No. 10, Brown went out in one-under-par 35 but then blistered the front nine with four birdies despite intermittent rain and high winds.
James Bohn, Bucknell Golf Club, was the early clubhouse leader after he carded a three-under 69. Despite the blustery conditions in the morning, Bohn netted five birdies to go along with two bogeys on his way to the early lead.
Pete Toole, Foxchase Golf Club, matched Bohn's round of 69 in the afternoon. Toole, 26, won the George Dressler Pennsylvania Amateur Public Links Championship earlier this year.
Only five other players managed to break par on this difficult, Donald Ross designed course - Scott Mayne, Hershey Golf Club (70), Eric Fonner, Huntingdon Valley CC (70), John Donnelly, Concord Country Club (71), Artie Fink, Jr., Sinking Valley CC, (71) and James Sullivan, Jr., Huntingdon Valley CC (71).
In total, 120 players from across the Commonwealth teed it up at this year's Middle-Amateur Championship. The Mid-Am is for players 25-years of age and above. Tomorrow's second round will begin at 8:00 AM with players going off the 1st and 10th tees. The leaders will tee off at 1:20 PM.
