Rotz Rollz

Rotz cards yet another 6–under par round.

Clayton Rotz

Farmington, PA – With two rounds of play in the books, Clayton Rotz, from Chambersburg, PA, took a strong lead over the remaining forty-one players. A second round of 6–under par set him six strokes away from his nearest competitor. While his putting set him apart from most of the field on day one, today it was all about his short game.

“I started to hit it better today early on” Rotz said. “I gave myself a lot of good looks. I’d say I played a little more steady today.”

Steady would be an understatement. Rotz carded 8 birdies throughout his second round. Two of those birdies would come on his final two holes, 8 (par 5, 545-yards) & 9 (par 4, 444-yards). Getting down to 66 again was an impressive feat, considering the course was playing 7,416–yards and a 77.9 scoring average.

Sitting six strokes back of Rotz is former first round leader John Popeck. Popeck, from Washington, PA, played a steady round and ended with an even par 72. Carding 3 birdies to his 3 bogeys would prove to be too much to make up any ground that Rotz had gained.

Following on Rotz’s footsteps was 2-time PA Open Champ, Michael Van Sickle. Van Sickle, from Wexford, PA, had a Rotz-esque type round, carding a 5–under, 67. The highlight of Van Sickle’s round came on the 8th when he cancelled out an early bogey with an eagle, to bring him to 6–under for the tournament and six strokes back of Rotz.

The final 41-man field is set for the Championship Round. Of the 41, 10 amateurs made the cut, with David DeNunzio being the Low amateur. The field will start play at 7:30 am Wednesday morning, with the leaders set to tee off at 9:50 am. Follow the field’s scoring live on www.pagolf.org or on twitter @PA_Golf .
