Lees Claims Second Straight Junior Girls Title

HERSHEY, Pa. - In last year's Pennsylvania Junior Girls' Championship, Kaitlyn Lees of Philadelphia Country Club had a three-shot lead after the first 18 holes but shot a second round 79 before finally claiming victory in a playoff. In this year's event at Hershey Country Club, Lees took the opposite approach. While still at the top of the leaderboard after round one, Lees was tied with one other golfer and just a shot ahead of four others. The crowded leaderboard gave her a different perspective, and she thrived, shooting a final round 75 for a two-round total of 150 to win her second consecutive crown in the event, presented by Allegheny Health Network.

"I like it better that way," Lees said of being in a tighter competition after the first round. "I knew I had to shoot a good score to win."

Starting her round on the back nine, Lees bogeyed her first hole before making birdie on No. 15 for the second day in a row. But after bogeys on No. 16 and No. 18, she found herself trailing in the event. But she was able to keep it together and complete her round of 75 to win her second-straight Junior Girls' Championship.

"It was a fight all day," Lees said. It was mentally exhausting. I was just trying to keep it all together, but a lot of putts weren't falling for me."

Lees ended up winning over a trio of golfers from Applecross Country Club. Jennifer Cleary shot 79-74 to finish at 153 (+11) and in second place. Just a shot behind her were Rylie Heflin and Gabriella Kim at 154. First-round co-leader Julianne Lee of Heritage Hills Golf Resort rounded out the top five with a 36-hole total of 155.
