The 1990’s saw the game of golf grow tremendously leaving most State and Regional Golf Associations with the task of adding new tournaments such as the Four-Ball.

In 1990, Hillcrest Country Club was the site for the inaugural Four-Ball Championship. Guy Costin and Tom Shallow of Philadelphia Country Club won by two shots over Sean Knapp and Jeff Schroeder of St. Jude Golf Club.

36-hole four-ball stroke play competition.
The Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is member of a club belonging to the Pennsylvania Golf Association or an individual member of the Pennsylvania Golf Association. Players need not be members of the same club.
At time of entry, one player from the side will complete the entire entry process. That player will need the partner’s GHIN number or User ID. If unsure of that information, please contact the golf office at 610-687-2340 x19.
Selection of the field will be based on the lowest 72 combined indexes as of the close of entries (TBD revision date). All indexes must be valid. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on the entry closing date. Entry fee for the Four-Ball is $350 per team, which must accompany the entry.
Players who have been accepted as participants in Pennsylvania Golf Association championships will receive event information concerning course assignment, practice rounds, pairings, and starting times approximately 10 days prior to the event. If you have not received your information seven days prior to the event, it is your responsibility to contact the Pennsylvania Golf Association. Information can also be found at
 Starting Times
The PAGA staff, following as closely as practical the preferences indicated on the entry blanks will determine pairings and tee times. Contestants will be notified of starting times by mail. The "Official Time" will be maintained at the starting tee(s) only. Starters will not page players in advance of their starting time. Players should report to the tee one starting interval prior to their tee time. 1st round results will determine 2nd round pairings.
Automotive transportation is permitted.
The team with the lowest gross score after 36 holes will be declared Four-Ball Champions and have their name engraved on the Mayor’s Trophy. Additional prizes will be awarded to the top 5 places.
In the event of a tie for the Four-Ball Championship, there will be a sudden-death playoff immediately following the conclusion of play Thursday afternoon. All other ties will be broken by matching scorecards in accordance with USGA guidelines.
