Qualifying for the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 112th Amateur Championship began this week at two sites: the Northeast Region Qualifier at Elmhurst Country Club on Wednesday, June 18 and the Central Region Qualifier at Out Door Country Club on Thursday, June 19. The 2025 Amateur Championship is scheduled to take place on July 28-30 at Huntsville Golf Club in Dallas, Pa.
Two additional qualifiers will follow, with the East Qualifier at LuLu Country Club on June 30 and the West Qualifier on July 1 at Ligonier Country Club. Northeast Scores
Wednesday's Northeast Region Qualifier saw 10 players advance, led by Timothy Peters (USGA/Western Pennsylvania GC), who paced the field and won medalist honors by a single stroke with a three-under par 69. Peters bogeyed the first hole but bounced back with five birdies on the front nine, part of a stretch where he birdied six of seven holes from No. 5 to No. 11. Two others were just one stroke back of Peters tied for second on the leaderboard with two-under 70's: David Mecca (CC of Scranton) and Matthew Zerfass (Brookside CC of Allentown). Mecca carded bogeys on three of the first five holes but birdied No. 6, 7, 9, and eagled 10 to recover well. Zerfass was steady all round long, with two four birdies and just two bogeys on the day. Four others were tied for fourth place at one-under: Cael Ropietski (Huntsville GC), Jackson Debusschere (The Springhaven Club), Noah Moelter (Blue Bell CC), and Glenn Iversen (USGA/GAP GC). Three additional players qualified from the Northeast Region as well, as Tyler McGarry (Fox Hill CC), Stephon Draper (CC of Scranton), and Vincent Scarpetta (Glenmaura National GC) finished the day at even par. --

The Central Region Qualifier advanced 21 total players and had a trio of golfers tied for first place after finishing the day at two-under with 70's: Carlisle Country Club's Brent Will, Heritage Hills Golf Resort's Caden Blanchette, and Briarwood Golf Club's Dustin Stocksdale. Will tallied four birdies on the day, on holes No. 5, 7, 11, and 13. Blanchette was cruising on the front nine -- with birdies on No. 3, 6, 8, and an eagle on 5 but came back to the field on the back nine, including a double bogey on 14. Stockdale sank an eagle on hole No. 3 and played steady the rest of the way, with additional birdies on 8 and 11. Tied for fourth place was another three players at one-under with Zack Amole (Frech Creek Golf Club), Alex Seelig (LedgeRock Golf Club), and Brett Rote (Conestoga Country Club) all qualifying.
