HERSHEY, Pa. - As Central Pennsylvania continues to deal with near-record heat, the first 18 of 54 holes at the 82nd Pennsylvania Golf Association's (PAGA) Junior Boys' Championship was completed on Monday at Hershey Country Club. Chase Yenser (Reading Country Club), a rising senior at Daniel Boone High School, fired a scorching six-under 65 to claim the lead after the first round and holds a three-stroke cushion over Freddy Hartmann (Overbrook Golf Club).

Yenser was tied for second place at this year's PIAA AAA Championships and carded eight birdies in the round, including four straight from holes No. 14 to 17 to finish the round strong. Yenser made the cut but finished 57th at last year's PAGA Junior Boys' Championship.

Hartmann, who finished the day with a three-under 68, birdied four holes on the front nine and was mistake-free until a double bogey on the 13th hole. He recovered with birdies on No. 15 and 17 to close out his round and stay within striking distance of Yenser.

Anything can still happen with 36 holes of play remaining, and a group of five players were also under-par on the day. Luke McGraw (Nemacolin Country Club) is at two-under with a 69 and finished 7th in the 2025 Junior Boys' Championship. Behind the top three players lurks a quartet of golfers tied at one-under: Colton Lusk (Nemacolin Country Club), Wes Lorish (Edgewood Country Club), Declan McLane (North Hills Country Club), and Max Mottura (Willowbrook Country Club).

Five more players round out the top 12 and include five tied at even-par, including reigning PIAA AAA champion Carson Kittsley (Oakmont Country Club), Michael Quallich (South Hills CC), William Hilton (Treesdale Golf & Country Club), Chris Warner (Toftrees Golf Resort), and Luca Kleinschmidt (The Springhaven Club).

Play resumes early Tuesday morning with round two, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the leaders scheduled to tee off at 9:00 a.m.

Update- Due to forecasted high temperatures, the Pennsylvania Golf Association has reduced the championship to 36-holes.  Players will play one 18-hole round on Tuesday.

The Pennsylvania Golf Association would like to thank the staff and membership of Hershey Country Club for the hospitality shown during today's round. Additional thanks go to DICK’S Sporting Goods for sponsorship of the event as the title sponsor of the PAGA.
