McMURRAY, Pa. – With 18 holes left to play in the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 89th Women’s Amateur Championship at Valley Brook Country Club, multiple players still are within reach of medalist honors. Tied at the top of the leaderboard are round one leader Michelle Cox (Lehigh Country Club) and Hannah Rabb (Susquehanna Country Club), knotted at two-under-par after the first two rounds.
Cox followed up on her round one performance with an even-par 72 on Tuesday, while Rabb fired a two-under 70 that included four birdies on the front nine (on holes No. 3, 5, 8, and 9) and a birdie on 16.
“Everything was working pretty well on the front nine,” said Rabb. “Two long putts happened to drop on eight and nine that helped me maintain on the back nine. Going forward I’m just trying to do the same things: fairway, green, two putt – if it goes in, great. If not, just leave it close enough for a tap-in so I don’t make too many mistakes, which is what I did today.”
Cox, who just wrapped up her senior season on the Penn State University women’s golf team, will play with another Nittany Lion in tomorrow’s final pairing – as Rabb is transferring to PSU this fall. Cox birdied the first two holes on Tuesday to get off to a great start before sandwiching three bogeys in between another birdie on the 18th to end her day.
“Everything felt good through three holes,” said Cox. “Then it started to get a little all over the place and I saw some different parts of the golf course – so I was happy to finish even. I’m excited to play with Hannah tomorrow, and I’ve been trying to win this title for a few years now, so it’d be really cool.”
Plenty of other players are still in the hunt, including a trio of former PAGA Women’s Amateur champions. 2023 medalist Rylie Heflin (Bidermann Golf Course) sits in third place at even par for the tournament, while Jackie Rogowicz (Merion Golf Club), the 2019 and 2022 medalist, is tied for fourth place with Megan Meng (Jericho National Golf Club) at one-over-par. Defending champ Angelina Tolentino (The 1912 Club) leads a quartet of players tied for sixth place that also includes Caroline McConnell (The Club at Nevillewood), Makensy Knaub (CC of York), and Rhianna Gooneratne (The 1912 Club), who are all three-over for the week and five strokes back of the lead. 2025 PAGA champions were crowned in three other divisions on Tuesday, including a 10-stroke victory by Katie Miller Gee (Green Oaks Country Club) in the Mid-Amateur Division. Miller Gee finished the week with an even-par 144 and has now won back-to-back Mid-Am titles, including five of the six since the category was added to the Championship.
The leaderboard was a bit closer in the Senior Division, where Valley Brook Country Club’s own Annie Vanzant held off Nicoll Keeney (Wilmington CC) and Louise Gebhart (Hanover CC) to earn medalist honors. Vanzant finished the week with a two-day total of 164, three strokes ahead of both Keeney and Gebhart.
In the Super-Senior Division, Diane Cardano-Casacio (Cedarbrook CC) held on for a wire-to-wire win, eking out defending champion Barb Pagana (Huntsville GC). Cardano-Casacio carded an eight-over 80 on Tuesday, the lowest round of the week in the division, to become the 2025 medalist by three strokes over Pagana.
The third and final round of the 2025 PAGA Women’s Amateur gets underway on Wednesday, July 23, with tee times beginning at 7:45 a.m. and the final group teeing off at 9:24 a.m.
