2025 Pennsylvania Senior Four Ball Day 2 Recap

POTTSTOWN, Pa. – Some big movers on the leaderboards highlighted the final round of the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 33rd Men’s and 5th Women’s Senior Four-Ball Championships on Tuesday at Bellewood Country Club.

In the Men’s Senior Division (55-64), the team of Bob Crnjarich and Rob Stoops (Allegheny CC, Butler CC) were tied for fourth place after Monday’s first round but dialed up the lowest round of the Championship with a seven-under 64 to earn medalist honors. The duo put together a bogey-free round with three birdies on the front nine (1, 5, and 8) and four more on the back (13, 15, 17, 18).

“We knew we needed a real good score today and got off to a decent start,” said Stoops. “We didn’t make any mistakes, got hot late, and it held up. It’s fantastic to win. The PAGA runs the tournament so well and Bellewood’s a great golf course.”

Crnjarich is no stranger to close finishes in the PAGA Senior Four-Ball, as he and then-partner Dan Brown were the runners-up last year by just a single stroke, but he is a former champion of the event, having won it with John Rodney back in 2018 before pairing with Stoops for this year’s event.

“It was great competition out there and this is our first team event together,” said Crnjarich. “He’s a rookie but I’m not, I’ve been playing this event forever -- so it feels good to be back in the winner’s circle.”

There were plenty of other teams in the hunt, though, including runners-up Jason Barkley and Bill Davis (Moselem Springs GC, Aronimink GC), who actually were tied for the lead at seven-under after a Barkley eagle on the par-five 18th completed their five-under 66 for the day. Stoops and Erickson had the response, though, and a Stoops birdie on 18 secured the victory for their team.

Tied for third place at six-under for the week were the Sinking Valley Country Club pairing of Greg Ferguson Sr. and Artie Fink and the team of Arnie Cutrell and Bill Rosemeyer (Greensburg CC, Butler CC). Rounding out the top five was Elkview Country Club’s Ken Bolcavage and John Pash, who were one-over after Monday but fired a six-under 65 on Tuesday to make a substantial climb up the leaderboard.

Over in the Men’s Super Senior Division (65+), yet another team went from fourth place to first place, as Don Erickson III and Joe Corsi (Indiana CC, Ligonier CC) shot a seven-under 64 in the final round to finish a single stroke ahead of round one leaders George Troutman and Bill Chase (Deer Run GC, Valley Green GC).

“We held our own well on the front side with three birdies then had five on the back, and Joe made five on his own,” said Erickson III. “On nine he knocked a fifty-footer in when I was sitting four feet away. He told me comin’ up that he was going to get it in before I had a chance!

The duo has had plenty of recent success, including a pair of WPGA Super-Senior Four-Ball titles the past two years, and now can add today’s PAGA Championship to their list of exploits.

“We really took off on the last second nine,” said Corsi. “I was very fortunate to make some birdies. I was just looking at the hole, hitting it, and when I looked up, they were going in. We just started playing together because the guy I played with moved away and Donnie’s partner didn’t play anymore so we decided to pair up.””

Troutman and Chase birdied twice but finished the day with a one-under 70 to finish the tournament in second place at eight-under. Defending champions J.R. Cattoni and Ben Cook (Clinton CC, Bucknell GC) ended in third place at three-under, while Lulu CC’s Glenn Smeraglio and Christopher Clauson earned fourth place at two-under. Tied for fifth place at one-under was Carlisle CC’s Mike Farlling and Kit Conner and 2022 champions Don Donatoni and Brian Rothaus (Hershey’s Mill GC, Five Ponds).

The final day of the Women’s Senior Four-Ball competition found Lisa Klein and Suzi Spotleson (Rivercrest GC & Preserve) put together two consecutive rounds of even-par 71 to win this year’s title. The pair birdied three times (on 10, 15, and 18) and finished four strokes ahead of runners-up Lisa Day and Allison Long (Honeybrook Golf Club), who were four-over for the week and two-over in the final round. Louise Gebhart and Barb Pagana (Hanover CC, Huntsville GC) finished in sole possession of third place at 10-over for the Championship.

Next up on the PAGA schedule is the 21st annual The Art Wall Jr. Memorial, scheduled for September 8-9 at Old York Road Country Club.

The Pennsylvania Golf Association would like to thank the staff and membership of Bellewood Country Club for the hospitality shown during this week’s Championship. Additional thanks go to DICK’S Sporting Goods for sponsorship of the event as the title sponsor of the PAGA.
