Returning champs Sutherland and Stimmel seek Dressler wins Two title defenses are among the highlights in the 85th George Dressler Memorial golf tournament when the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 2026 season gets underway. Nathan Sutherland (Oakmont Country Club) and Rick Stimmel (Connoquenessing Country Club) will defend their titles in the championship and senior divisions in the season-opening state-wide championship at Outdoor Country Club in York, Pa. April 27-28. After registering two top 10 Dressler finishes in previous years, Sutherland overcame a four-stroke deficit with an eight-birdie 65 on day two a year ago to win the event. Stimmel duplicated that comeback effort also overcoming a four-stroke obstacle on the second day to win his third-straight Dressler Senior title which catapulted him toward a fourth PAGA Senior Player of the Year award. The Super Senior division will crown a new champion this season as 2025 titlist Joe Weiscarger (Wyoming Valley Country Club) is not in the field. That doesn’t necessarily mean an unfamiliar name will finish on top as the last four division player of the year winners highlight a solid field. Glenn Smeraglio (LuLu Country Club), last year’s Art Wall winner, and the previous three years’ awardees Don Donatoni (Hershey’s Mill Golf Club) 2024, Brian Rothaus (Five Ponds Golf Club) 2023 and Greg Osborne (Overlook Golf Course) 2022 will compete in this year’s two-day, 36-hole event. Sutherland will face stiff competition in the championship division as 2025’s runner-up Zach Dilcher (LedgeRock Country Club) heads a group of five former state mid-amateur champions competing. In addition, Dylan Ramsey (Royal Oaks Golf Course), who tied with Dilcher for second and another LedgeRock duo, Jake Haberstumpf and Grant Skyllas, as well as Scott Kalamar (Green Pond Country Club), the 4th through 6th place finishers will compete for the title. Battling with Stimmel again will be former state senior amateur and state senior match play champion Jeff Frazier (Carlisle Country Club), former mid-amateur champions Arnie Cutrell (Greensburg Country Club), Eric Williams (Glenmaura National Golf Club) and Dan Brown (Manada Golf Club). A former Dressler senior champion, Bob Crnjarich (Allegheny Country Club), last year’s runner-up, along with third-place finishers Jim Boburka (Green Pond Country Club) and Rob Stoops (Butler Country Club) are all also entered in the 2026 tournament. A full field of 111 players will tee it up at Outdoor Country Club which was founded in 1892. The Ed Ault design is a par 72 layout covering 7,067 yards This event, and the entire 2026 PAGA season which includes 24 state championships and several qualifying events, is sponsored once again by DICK’S Sporting Goods. |
