New format for PA Boy’s and Girls Junior

New Format for Pennsylvania Boy’s and Girls Junior Championships

On March 23rd the USGA announced their plans to modify qualifying for four of their amateur championships in 2024.  Beginning in 2024 the USGA will award exemptions to winners of state and regional championships that meet their criteria for format and strength of field.  Men’s and Women's USGA Amateurs and Boy’s and Girl’s USGA Junior Amateurs are the events that will be added in 2024.

For a state championship to be considered to receive an exemption in 2024 the tournament format must meet the USGA guidelines by 2023.  Only champions of events that are scheduled to play a minimum of 54 holes will be considered.

Currently the Pennsylvania Amateur and Pennsylvania Women’s Amateur are contested over 54 holes.  The Pennsylvania Golf Association has made the decision to modify the format of our Boy’s and Girl’s Junior Amateurs from the current 36-hole format to a 54-hole championship.

For 2023, full fields will consist of 144 boys and 144 girls.  The boys will play at Hershey Country Club and the Girls at Lebanon Country Club.  The entire field will play 18-holes on Monday, June 26. At the conclusion of Monday’s round each field will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties.  Players that make the cut will then play 36-holes on Tuesday, June 27.  The winner will be the player who returns the lowest 54-hole total.
