2025 Dressler Day 2 Recap

Sutherland Takes 84th George Dressler Memorial Title

Scores

FLEETWOOD, Pa. – Sometimes, it all just clicks. Oakmont Country Club’s Nathan Sutherland fired a blistering five-under 65 on a difficult Moselem Springs golf course to win the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 84th George Dressler Memorial Championship. Sutherland, who plays sparingly around the state, achieved his first career PAGA win after entering the day four strokes back but soaring to the top of the leaderboard with an eight-birdie day. Sutherland has had success in past Dressler events (including a fifth-place finish in 2024 and 10th in 2022) but came out of the gates with some consistency and a bit of fortune early in Tuesday’s final round.

“On seven I hit it right into the rough and got lucky to have a shot at the green,” recalled Sutherland. “I had about 165 and kind of a squirrely lie but it came out perfect, landed in the middle of the green, scooted up to about 15 feet, and I made the putt. Then I was two-under through 7, made a birdie putt on 9, and from there it’s just see how many you can make at that point. I was pretty freed up.”

Sutherland birdied holes No. 10, 11, and 12 and added another on 17 to wrap up this year’s title. He finished three-under par for the tournament, with a three-stroke cushion over runners-up Dylan Ramsey (GAP Youth on Course) and Zach Dilcher (LedgeRock Golf Club), who finished both days at even par.

“I putted nicely and kept it out of trouble for the most part,” said Sutherland. “Had a couple good breaks and made some par putts today. I just learned they’ve been playing this tournament for 84 years. Any time you get your name on a trophy is nice, but I didn’t know it went that far back, so it’s special.”

LedgeRock GC’s Jake Haberstumpf finished fourth and was one-over after both rounds, with fellow LedgeRock member Grant Skyllas tied for fifth place at two-over along with round one leader Scott Kalamar of Green Pond Country Club.

Over in the Senior Division, it was another come-from-behind story, as Rick Stimmel (Connoquenessing CC) made a charge of his own, from four shots back to begin the day to winning the division by three strokes. Stimmel, the two-time defending PAGA Senior Player of the Year, notched five birdies in the round – just a day after only managing one.

“The golf course is harder than it looks,” said Stimmel. “Condition-wise, it was perfect. Yesterday I shot five-over but it felt like 1-over until I added everything up and found out what it really was. Today I got off to a hot start and birdied 10, 12, and 13 to build a cushion. After nine holes I looked and I had a five-shot lead so I knew that I was going in the right direction. I managed to two-putt my way coming home and I’m fortunate to come out on top because this is probably not my style of golf course. It’s wide open and tricky and that’s a tough combination for me.”

Stimmel, who previously won the Dressler in 2021, was able to outpace another former champ in Bob Crnjarich (Allegheny CC), who finished five-over-par for the tournament and two strokes behind Stimmel. James Boburka (Green Pond CC) and Rob Stoops (Butler CC) finished tied for third place at 11-over.

“Our winter was so bad that none of us have really had a chance to play in anything,” stated Sitmmel. “So it’s nice to snag a win early and see how the rest of the summer’s going to pan out.”

In the Super Senior Division, it was Joseph Weiscarger (Wyoming Valley CC) making it a wire-to-wire victory with a three-over-par total of 143 after both rounds – five strokes clear of runner-up Don Donatoni (Hershey’s Mill GC). Weiscarger birdied three consecutive holes on the back nine (12, 13 and 14) to help secure his victory. Wedgewood GC’s Andy Lykon and Overlook GC’s Gregory Osborne tied for third at 12-over-par, while Range End GC’s Stephen Borowitz completed the top 5 with a 14-over.

Next up on the PAGA schedule is a final Senior Open qualifier on May 1 at Lebanon Country Club, with the 5th Senior Open Championship scheduled for May 12-13 at Gulph Mills Golf Club in King of Prussia, Pa.
