Next nine qualifiers are in at Oakmont! 6/11/26 - Jason Li (Sewickley Heights Golf Club) was in one of the early groups on the Hannastown Golf Club’s course this morning in the second of six qualifiers for spots in the 113th Pennsylvania Amateur at Oakmont Country Club. A full field took to the course Thursday, June 11, and Li beat the afternoon storms, that delayed play for two hours and 35 minutes, and 114 other competitors to top the field at -2. It wasn’t exactly a smooth round for Li as he went out in a one-under 34 but had only four pars on Hannastown’s front nine. But Li, who regained his amateur status after a shot at professional golf, finished strong with two birdies in his final three holes to post 68 on the par-70 layout. Five birdies offset the three bogeys in his round. Sam Napper (USGA/WPGA) was the only other player under par for the day shooting a one-under 69 that included three birdies in his last six holes to get into the red. He was followed by seven players who posted even par 70s to earn their way into the state’s amateur championship. They included another member of Pennsylvania’s U.S. national Development Team, Jack Sacriponte from the host club, Issac Allan (USGA/WPGA), Wes Lorish (Edgewood Country Club), Landon Mauser (Diamond Run Golf Club), Max Mottura (Willowbrook Golf Club), Griffin Hansberry (Nemacolin Country Club) and Sacriponte had a bogey-birdie offset on numbers five and nine and then parred out to register his total while Mauser eagled the 10th hole to open his closing nine and needed a birdie on 17 to solidify his spot. Brian Ulanowicz (USGA/WPGA) was the final contender to post and even-par score beating the long weather delay and the darkness with his 70. Ten other players finished within two shots of the qualifying cutoff in the tightly contested event. And another 11 players were right behind by one stroke. Today’s event was the second of six qualifiers for the Pa. Amateur. All Pennsylvania Golf Association state championship events and qualifiers are sponsored by DICK’S Sporting Goods. |
