2026 PA Open Day 2 Recap

LIGONIER, Pa. – It’s shaping up to be a dramatic final round at the Pennsylvania Golf Association’s (PAGA) 110^th Open Championship at Laurel Valley Golf Club, with Tuesday’s second round clustering plenty of players together that will all have a shot to win on Wednesday. The field was cut down to 46 remaining players, but a group of four are tied for the overall lead with two-day totals of -7 (137): Braden Shattuck (Rolling Green Golf Club), Jake Haberstumpf (Saucon Valley Country Club), Talon Kriebel (Glengarry Golf Links), and Timothy Peters (Toftrees Golf Resort.)

Kriebel, the leader after Monday’s first round, couldn’t quite reach the heights of his six-under-par 66 from a day ago, but birdied 6, 8, 11, and 13 to finish the day with a -1 (71).

“Today was a little different than yesterday,” said Kriebel. “My driver wasn’t as good but I scrambled around and made some good putts on the tail end of the front nine and on the back nine. Had a little bit of a blunder on 18 but other than that I feel pretty good for tomorrow. I’ve had a couple of events this year where I’ve had chances to win so hopefully I can put it all together and follow-up with a victory. I’ll stay patient, not try to force it, and see what happens. Hopefully some putts fall and it goes my way.”

Shattuck, who finished fifth at last year’s PAGA Open, shot a -2 (70) and birdied holes No. 1, 6, 12, and 18. Two bogeys on the front nine (on 5 and 9) were his only trouble spots of the day.

“I’ve hit it very well the last couple of days,” said Shattuck. “I’ve hit a lot of shots in there between six and 10 feet, over and over again – and two-putting over and over again, but sinking in a few here and there. I’m playing better than the score but the score is still pretty good. I think the course is playing longer but it’s playing easier. When you’re in the fairway and you hit it slightly towards the rough, it’ll just hold. Then you can just land it close to the hole, even if you have to hit from the rough. You can just flag hunt, really, and you don’t have to think too much about the slopes around the greens. With the contouring of the greens, if it was firm and fast, it’d be impossible. I just plan on trying to make more putts tomorrow.”

Peters was one of the few competitors on the day to shoot lower in the second round than they did in the first round. He tied for the lowest round of the day with a -5 (67) that included six birdies (on 2, 3, 6, 11, 15, and 17) and just a single bogey, on No. 9, that brought him back down to a tie for first after briefly holding the top spot all by his lonesome.

“The round today was good and I just played steady,” said Peters. “I try to just birdie the par fives and hit greens on the par threes and fours and see if the putts fall. Fortunately, a few did today. Feels good to be tied for the lead. I haven’t really played all too great in the PA tournaments recently but I’m excited for tomorrow and hopefully it’s a good outcome.”

Haberstumpf is the fourth competitor tied for first place and fired a -2 (70) on Tuesday. He was even par through 17 holes (birdies on 3 and 6, bogeys on 9 and 17) but eagled 18 to get back on top and build some momentum for the final round. Haberstumpf and Peters both top the Amateur Division, while Shattuck and Kriebel are tied atop the Professional Division.

Don’t count out the rest of the field, though – plenty of other players are still in reach with 18 holes left to play. Scott Jordan (PAGA Individual Member) and Alec Stopperich (Valley Brook Country Club) are just a stroke behind, at -6 (138) for the week. Stopperich tied with Peters for low round of the day with his five-under 67, while Jordan’s six-birdie day was spoiled only by a triple bogey on 18.

Only two strokes behind lurks Zac Oakley (Bidermann G.C.) and Amani D’ambrosio (Longue Vue Club) at -5 (139), tied for seventh place, while rounding out the top 10 players is another pair tied for ninth at -3 (141) in Mark Goetz and Dane Mohap (FSGA Sun Coast.)

Final round action begins bright and early on Wednesday morning, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. and the leaders’ twosomes teeing off at 9:10 a.m. and 9:20 a.m.
